The University of Cologne, located in Cologne is one of the oldest universities in Europe. It was the 6th university of central Europe in the year 1798. Later, it came into the picture in 1919. It was one of the universities that have received the title, “University of Excellence” from 2012-19. Moreover, it is one of the largest universities with 51,256 students, 657 professors, 6 faculties, and 4 clusters of excellence.

The university publishes various vacancies on its site from time to time that can be part-time or full-time. Non-EU students are allowed to work 120 full days and 240 half days. Although, there are no such restrictions for EU students. Depending on one’s professional skills, employment can be found in service sectors like theatres, cinemas, restaurants, and various others. However, apart from that companies such as KPMG, EY, Bayer, Deloitte, and Capgemini present employability.

Housing and Accommodation

Even though accommodations are subject to individual preferences yet the University makes sure to provide enough options for the students to choose from. They range from 90 student dormitories that reflect an intake capacity of 5000; private apartments that are mostly unfurnished to shared apartments that can be either furnished or unfurnished based on one’s choice.

Cost of Living

Although there’s no tuition fee yet a semester contribution of 279.65 EUR per semester is mandatory. This covers the ticket for public transport in and around North Rhine-Westphalia. The cost of accommodation varies, for a student dormitory it rounds up to 141-361EUR, for a single private apartment it comes around 500EUR and that of a shared apartment is estimated to be 350-450 EUR. Overall, including the daily expenses that include communication, insurance, food, and other necessities the cost comes up to 832EUR per month.
