About the University
Bielefeld University was established in Germany as a public institution in 1969. The goal of the university is to be a Reform University. The university is situated near the Teutoburg Forest in the west of Bielefeld. There are 116 undergraduate and graduate programs provided by the university which has rapidly established itself. It came up among the first of the German universities to switch some faculties e.g. biology to Bachelor or Master-degrees as part of the Bologna Process. An extensive multi-phase modernization project has been started by Bielefeld University which is to be completed by 2025. 24,875 students were admitted to different courses at Bielefeld University in 2017. The foreign student population is 7.9 percent of all the students. Bielefeld University’s campus offers space for research and development institutes and centers. A metropolitan region with an environmentally friendly location is developing in the vicinity of the university campus.

Housing and accommodation-Bielefeld University
There are several housing options for international students in Germany, both on-campus and off-campus. The university’s residence halls consist of 2,450 rooms and flats for students. The University’s residence hall is a 4-storeyed building with four shared flats on each floor. There are five unfurnished single bedrooms with two shared bathrooms, a fitted kitchen, and a fridge in the flats in the University residence hall. The Morgenbreede Residence Hall is a four-storeyed building with two rooms in one flat and three rooms in the other. Flats with shared bathrooms, kitchen, fridge, microwave, storage space, and balcony are accommodated in Morgenbreede residence hall.
Cost of living
Bielefeld University does not charge student tuition fees. Students only pay the semester fees to the university. Places to visit near the university
Bielefeld is a vibrant and diverse university city with numerous parks here and there and some small lakes. The city is known for its exquisite linen manufacturing. The Spartanburg, a 13th-century castle, and the Teutoburger Forest are perfect places to relax or hike after lectures, the city center offers plenty of shopping options along with a wide variety of bars, cafés, clubs, restaurants, and seasonal cultural and international activities in parks and squares, all within easy reach of the campus. If you’re more of a natural person, you can go hiking along the 160-km Hermannsweg. It begins in the Rheine and leads all the way to the mountain Lippischer Velmerstot range. It is one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Germany. It takes you through the Teutoburg Forest as well, which consider as the “green lung” of Bielefeld.
