IELTS vs TOEFL: Which is Easier? Should I take the IELTS test or TOEFL? It is always been a question in minds of students while preparing for the English Proficiency test. TOEFL and IELTS both are English proficiency tests. Both tests share some similarities and dissimilarities. It is hard to say which test is easier but a wide population believes IELTS is easier than TOEFL. IELTS vs TOEFL: Similarities
TOEFL vs IELTS is a trending topic among students but both IELTS and TOEFL share some similarities in point of cost, pattern, and standards. Chiefly the similarities are:

Speaking test section of IELTS is consist of 3 sections including questions related to home, job, and studies, a monolog of 1-2 minutes along with questions related to monolog. Whereas the TOEFL speaking section is consist of 6 sections including questions related to the job, home, and studies. Finally, you have to summarize information from a short conversation.
Differences: Writing
IELTS writing test is both pen and paper and computer based test. It is of two types: Academic Writing test and General Writing test. Task for IELTS General Writing Test differ from tasks of IELTS Academic Writing Test. General Writing test requires letter writing. While Academic Writing test requires report writing. Whereas the TOEFL writing test is just a computer-based test. In addition to that, an additional 2-minute lecture is given on the topic after you’ve read the text.
Differences: Listening
IELTS listening test is of 30 minutes duration with a variety of questions of sentence completion, true-false, match the headings, etc. While TOEFL listening section is of 60 minutes including only academic context.
Differences: Reading
IELTS reading section has a wide variety of questions. It gives you two broad exam choices, Academic and general training. TOEFL reading section includes multiple choice type questions and all questions are of an academic context.
There are mixed views on the easiness of IELTS and TOEFL. It mostly depends on what kind of exam you prefer. For students who are comfortable with computer-based tests. TOEFL is a more easy choice. Still, for students preferring pen and paper-based tests, IELTS is a good and easier choice.
