About the university

TU Bergakademie Freiberg is situated in the city of Freiberg- Saxony, Germany. It was founded in 1765. The primary objective of the university is to equip students with the skills to manufacture eco-friendly materials which is a prime need of the world today. Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg is the only university in Europe having its own active mine at hand.

the TU Bergakademie Freiberg is the world’s oldest university for mining science and is characterized by the four scientific fields Geo, Materials, Energy, and Environment. According to the statistics, around 4000 students were enrolled in 2020/2021 for the winter semester. The University offers 73 study programs. The university ranks among the top 10 research universities in Germany and takes the leading position in the new federal states of Germany.

Courses offered by the university

The university offers programs taught in German while international programs are entirely taught in English.  There are over 45 programs in different subject areas such as Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Geosciences, Engineering Sciences, Economics are offered at the level of Bachelor’s, Master’s, Diploma and Ph.D.

Admission to all or all Bachelor’s and Ph.D. programs is performance-based and without tuition fees (as normal for consecutive studies at public universities in Germany); students only pay a registration fee of approximately EUR 94 per semester.

With the help of the European education program, Erasmus students and graduates can do a financially supported internship in Europe. The internship must last for a minimum of two months and may also require a research stay or thesis writing. If the internship takes place at a university, students can apply with the IUZ. Here, studying on-site and living next door to the lecture hall is feasible. Places to visit near the university

Famous buildings in the Freiberg are the Semper Opera House and several of the best-known examples of German Baroque, such as the Zwinger Palace and the cathedral. The historic town center of Freiberg is known as the Ore Mountain Mining Region. Freiberg also has a notable cathedral having two famous Gottfried Silbermann organs. The most famous monument is the St. Marien cathedral with its 12th century Tulip Pulpit, Romanesque Golden Portal, and the Silbermann organ.
