Germany starts new admission program for Afghan refugees
Yes, you heard correctly. October 17th, 2022, in Berlin Following the Taliban takeover of Kabul last year, Germany has begun a new initiative to welcome Afghans assessed to be most in danger. On Monday, the interior and foreign ministries made this declaration. 38,000 Afghans who are most vulnerable to the extreme Islamists’ authority will be taken in by Berlin, and 26,000 of them have already arrived.
In the new scheme, 1,000 Afghans and their family members will be accepted per month. It specifically targets Afghans who actively advocate for women’s and human rights. Along with that those who are at risk due to their employment in the legal system, politics, education, media, culture, sport, or science.
The program can also help Afghans who have endured abuse or persecution due to their gender, sexual orientation, or religion. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser stated in a statement that “based on set entrance requirements; we can give protection to severely threatened and vulnerable persons from Afghanistan.”
To choose and contact the targeted populations, Germany will work with civil society organizations. The initiative will continue through the conclusion of the current parliamentary session in October 2025, according to the administration.
Finally, Germany has made a tremendous effort to help Afghan refugees by offering them protection and education. I firmly think that the German government’s action will benefit and advance humanity.
