About Barenboim-Said Akademie

For brilliant young people from the Middle East and North Africa, the state-recognized private Barenboim-Said Akademie provides a bachelor’s degree in music. The rigorous program of study also includes humanities and musicology. The academy’s faculty includes internationally famous artists. The operational expenditures are borne by the Federal Government of Germany. The scholarships are provided by Germany’s Foreign Ministry. The Barenboim-Said Akademie holds a 99-year lease on the historic building from the City of Berlin. It was founded in 2016, and there are presently roughly 100 students registered, with 96% of them being international students.

Places to visit near the University

The Barenboim-Said Akademie started in 2015 as a strong continuation of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra’s ethos and aim. The Barenboim-Said Akademie is dedicated to training a new generation of musicians and is named after the Orchestra’s founders and leading talents, with a curriculum inspired by their vision.
