Documents required for applying to a University of Germany

The specific documents required for applying to a University of Germany are as follows:

  • A certified copy of your higher education entrance qualification and any other relevant qualifications in the original language.
  • A translated overview of your course modules.
  • A passport photo.
  • Passport (photocopy of your personal information and photo ID page)
  • Proof of language proficiency.
  • Student visa or residence permit.
  • A Completed registration form.
  • Notice of admission.

VISA

The most important thing a student needs is a Student Visa. Depending on the purpose of the visit, students need to apply for the appropriate visa to Germany. There are four types of German student visas. They are:

  • German Student Visa– This is the standard student visa for international students who have been admitted to a German university and are ready to start their full-time study program at a program.
  • German Student Applicant Visa– Students need this visa if they need to be in Germany to apply for university admission in person. This visa doesn’t allow students to study in Germany, it’s only valid for the university application process.
  • German Language Course Visa– This is a  type of visa for students who want to study for a German language course in Germany.
  • Short-term/Schengen visa (C Visa)– This type of visa is required for students who are entitled to a course that wraps up within 3 months.
  • Filled out and signed the national visa application form.
  • Valid national passport.
  • Two photocopies of passport.
  • Certificate of birth.
  • Marriage certificate (If applicable).
  • Child’s certificate of birth (If applicable).
  • Recent passport-style photographs (Up to 3).
  • Proof of University Admission
  • Proof of English Language Proficiency

  • Student Health Insurance- Students must have at least 30,000 EUR coverage, and it must be valid for at least 3 months.

Students can provide any document as Proof of University Admission:

  • Students can send university admission letter “Zulassungsbescheinigung”
  • Letter of admission in a foundation course which is issued by a Studienkolleg.
  • Letter of admission in a foundation course.
  • Letter of admission in a language course.
  • Letter of admission in a propaedeutic course.

Students have to provide the following as a Proof of English Language Proficiency

  1. The score of TOEFL
  2. The score of The International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

Students have to provide following documents to Proof their Financial Resources:

  1. A German blocked bank account deposit confirmations of €10,332 in total.
  2. Letter of commitment and proof of parent’s income records and financial assets.
  3. Scholarship certificate (if applicable)
  4. Letter of commitment by a German resident which is called “Verpflichtungserklärung”. This applies if a German resident is covering the course study costs.

Students need to apply for a visa as soon as possible, at least three months before moving to the country. The procedures are different from country to country. Here are some main steps students need to go through below:

  • Go to the German Embassy: Students have to locate the German Embassy in their country to get more information and set up a visa appointment.
  • Review The Requirements and Procedures: Before the visa appointment, students have to make sure that they have all the documents ready. They can find specific document requirements for their country on the official websites of German Embassies.
  • Prepare for visa interview: Students have to pay the visa application fee of 60.00 Euro – 75.00 Euro and they should have the payment confirmation with them at the time of visa interview. This fee is non-refundable if the visa is rejected. Students should prepare themselves in advance for the interview.

Documents required to open a blocked account in Germany

Students will be able to open a Blocked Account, after their admission to a German University. Students have to be very careful with all the procedures. To open a blocked account in Germany, students have to submit the following documents:

  1. Application Form
  2. A Valid passport
  3. University admission letter
  4. A bank statement that confirms that students have the required amount of money to open a blocked account
  5. A prepaid fee

Students can open a German Blocked account entirely via Fintiba. Students can also open a German Blocked account at Deutsche Bank. They charge 150 Euros to create a blocked account.

Covid Pass

Before getting into Germany students should know about the quarantine rules at present in Germany. Students have to provide the following documents to enter Germany:

  1. A negative covid-19 test result or
  2. Proof of final Covid-19 vaccination or
  3. Proof of recovery from an infection.

Documents need to prepare after visiting Germany

Here are some steps students have to do before beginning their studies in Germany

  • Find accommodation in Germany: After arriving in Germany, students have to find their permanent accommodation in Germany. They may get accommodation in a student residence, flatshare, or an apartment rented on their own. The proof of permanent address will be necessary for the future.
  • Get a Health Insurance Policy: Students have to get themselves covered with a health insurance policy which is called ”Krankenversicherung” as this is the mandatory requirement for everyone living here. There are some German health insurance companies that are targeting students and meeting their needs. German insurance company DR-WALTER has been in the industry for many years and is famous among international students. Without proof of health insurance enrolment at a German university is impossible.
  • Certificate of enrollment- Students have to enroll themselves in studies at the student service office. Students have to do this within the enrollment period. Without enrollment, students will not be able to participate in study courses. The certificate of enrollment is required when students are registering their address, applying for a residence permit.
  • Open a current bank account: The next thing students need to do is get a current bank account, with a recognized German bank (Girokonto).To open a student bank account in Germany, students will need:
  1. National Passport
  2. Confirmation of registration which is called ‘Meldebescheinigung’.
  3. Evidence of student status (any of the following)

  • Apply for a residence permit: Students have to apply for a residence permit as soon as possible after the confirmation of registration. This should be done by them when they will have a valid student visa.
