  • Botanical Garden Erlangen: Maintained by the university, it is a botanical garden spreading across 2 hectares of land. It dates back to 1626 but the botanical garden at its current location in 1828. It houses over 4000 species of plants and contains ‘Neischl Grotto’, an artificial cave.   • Tennenlohe Forest: It’s a natural reserve. Students can come here to see majestic wild horses and hike on narrow trails in order to take in nature and wind down from the hectic student life. Also, it has a forest museum showcasing the flora and fauna of the forest and its history.
