Germany’s FlixBus Expands to South India, Launches Services in Bengaluru

Germany-based travel-tech company, FlixBus, has officially launched its services in South India, following its successful debut in North India. The company announced that its buses will begin operating on September 10, 2024, offering connections between Bengaluru and key cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirupati, Vijayawada, and Belagavi.

Expanding the Network

FlixBus aims to connect 101 cities with 215 stops across India. The expansion also covers 33 South Indian cities with over 200 new daily routes. The luxury buses are equipped with advanced safety features like ABS (anti-lock braking system), ESC (electronic stability control), and two-point seat belts for all seats, ensuring a safe and comfortable travel experience. As part of the launch offer, passengers traveling to and from Bengaluru can book tickets for as low as ₹99.

Focus on Passenger Comfort and Safety

A highlight of the new routes is the daily sleeper bus service between Bengaluru and Belagavi. This service departs from Bengaluru’s Majestic bus terminal at 9:10 PM and arrives in Belagavi by 6:55 AM. The return trip leaves Belagavi at 9:15 PM, reaching Bengaluru by 6:25 AM. The buses are designed for passenger comfort, offering air-conditioning and safety features such as seat belts for all passengers.

Support from the Karnataka Government

Karnataka’s Minister for Commerce & Industries, MB Patil, expressed his support for FlixBus’s entry into South India. He participated in the launch event and remarked that FlixBus will address long-distance mobility needs in the region. Through partnerships with six local bus operators, FlixBus is integrating technology to optimize bus services and provide a consistent travel experience.

Future Plans

FlixBus has ambitious plans to further expand its network, adding more connections in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala. This expansion is aimed at improving public transportation options and bringing world-class technology to local operators.
