About the university

The BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg was established in 1991 and is a technical university with campuses in Cottbus and Senftenberg situated in Brandenburg, Germany. There are 185 professors, 640 additional academic professionals, and more than 7,000 students out of which 2,350 are international students and more than 100 nations. In 1994, the institute received its stature as a university. In 2013, The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg was re-established. As Germany’s only technical university, it has research firms in the fields: Biotechnology, Environment, and Health, Cognitive and Dependable Cyber-Physical Systems, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability, Smart Regions, and Heritage. The university is plenty on offer for campus life even if it’s a small university.

Internships/Jobs near the university

There are enough opportunities if you know good German that is only for the Cottbus area. If you have a b2 or c1 level then you can easily get a good job in Cottbus. But if you don’t have one then you can always travel to Berlin and Dresden for part-time jobs. International Students can work 120 full days or 240 half days/year without being self-employed and paid compulsory internships during studies are not included. Students can also work as student assistants at the university itself without limitation. The BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg has 3 campuses. Which are divided into 6 faculties which are Architecture, Engineering, Cultural Sciences, Economics, and Environmental Sciences programs. As a technical university, it offers numerous degree programs in both the technical and scientific fields. Even BTU is well-equipped even it is relatively small and provides outstanding academic advising and personal support which makes the university very appealing to international students.

House and Accommodation

Foreign students are offered accommodation through 14 apartments along with one to four rooms in the guest. Cottbus and Senftenberg offer the perfect accommodation for all needs whether close to the university, surrounded by greenery in the countryside, centrally or furnished and this from a minimum of 180 euros per month. This leads to more scope for student’s free time and personal wishes.

 

Cost of living 

The cost of living here in Cottbus is pretty cheap as compared to other states in Germany. Students can get it as low as 180 for accommodation. A maximum of 350 for luxurious accommodation. This includes everything like luxury stuff, food, basic stuff, travel, sports then it will go up to max 500 or 550 euros.

Places to visit near the university

There are many things to do while studying at BTU as Cottbus, Senftenberg. And the surrounding areas are filled with fun things to do. Several places to visit near the university are Spremberger Turm which is located 5 minutes far from the Cottbus campus. Flugplatzmuseum situated only 2 minutes far and Puecklerpark Branitz Museums. And Branitz Schloss Museums are also located 12 minutes from BTU Cottbus campus. If anyone would like to know Germany from another point of view, the Student Activities Office offers you the opportunity to participate in a two-week Homestay with a German host family. The program costs are EUR 40 and cover transport, food, and lodging to and from the host home, but no personal expenses. Both the towns of Cottbus and Senftenberg feature attractive centers with many cafes and restaurants, museums, cinemas, and various theatres.
