About Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships

The Heinrich Böll Foundation Scholarships is a political foundation with an international network with partner projects in around 60 countries. The Heinrich Böll Foundation supports about 1,400  undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students with scholarships. Its main focus is Green Project and the scholarship’s mission statement is to promote studying and graduating with positive ideas.

Each applicant should have excellent academic records, be socially and politically engaged, and have an active interest in the basic values of the foundation: ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self-determination, and justice and those who are pursuing their degree at universities, universities of applied sciences (‘Fachhochschulen’), or universities of the arts (‘Kunst-/Musikhochschulen’). Students for the master’s program will receive €850/month while doctoral candidates will receive €1200/month.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Germans/Foreign students educated in Germany: First degree only (Bachelor, Diploma, Staatsexamen).
  • EU nationals/Students not educated in Germany:
    • Master’s degree only; proof of first professional qualification must be provided.
    • Level B2 or DSH 2 (with certificate).
  • Non-EU nationals/ Students1 not educated in Germany:
    • Master’s degree only; proof of first professional qualification must be provided.
    • Level B2 or DSH 2 (with certificate).
  • A very good school or college/university academic record
  • Social commitment and political interest
  • Convincing reasons for applying to the Heinrich Böll Foundation

Application Process

  • Register for the online application portal.
  • Provide the requested information in the Online Application Portal.
  • After uploading all of your documents, submit your application before the end of the application deadline.
  • Interview with a liaison lecturer.
  • Selection workshop: This level consists of:
    • structured one-to-one interview
    • group discussion
