Hochschule Emden/Leer was initially founded in 1973 as East Friesland University of Applied Sciences and was newly founded in 2009. the university has three campuses- Emden Campus, Maritime Campus Leer, and Business Campus Leer. Dual Study programs and Online Studies are also available at the University.
