The Jade University of applied sciences was founded in 2009. It lies in the northwest and has three campuses namely Wilhelmshaven, Oldenburg & Elsfleth. It has a total number of 6,700 enrolled students and 180 professors and 199 specialists. The Elsfleth campus is Germany’s most renowned nautical training center.

The core values of the university include innovative culture, interdisciplinary thinking & constructive teaching. At Jade University the basic requirement is that the student has a good working knowledge of German which will enable him or her to follow lectures and study independently.

The University also offers preparatory internships for courses of mechanical engineering, mechatronics & medical technology including certification courses for the competency of navigational officers. Since the university is based on research and development it facilitates contacts with potential employers throughout Germany.

Students can opt for abroad Internships within the EU and in Iceland, Liechtenstein, FYR Macedonia, Norway, and Turkey which can be funded with Erasmus + for a maximum of five months, or there can be funding through the PROMOS  scholarship.

PLACES TO VISIT NEAR THE UNIVERSITY

The Deutsches Marinemuseum displays German naval history and has outdoor ship models. The Aquarium Wilhelmshaven contains seals and penguins, and a museum with aquatic fossils.

Oldenburg is a city in northwest Germany. The central Horst-Janssen-Museum displays work by 20th-century artists, including lithographs and drawings. The State Museum for Nature and Man exhibits the region’s natural history, plus an aquarium. Oldenburg Castle houses showcase regional artifacts and European painting.

Elsfleth is a beautiful town with harbors & dockyards where Two rivers, the Hunte and the Wesser which combine to give credence. The city’s major attraction would be the St. Nicolai Church dating back to the 16th century and the monument of the Black Duke. One can explore various adventure sports like sailing or hiking

HOUSE & ACCOMMODATION NEAR JADE UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES 

  1. Living complex in Wilhelmshaven ­ is varied, with everything from one ­room apartments to large flatshares are available on the various portals. Students can also apply for low­ cost rooms within the Wiesenhof student hall of residence and the Ansgari campus near the residential complex.
  2. Oldenburg ­ has centrally located student halls of residence run by the Student network and Hermann ­Ehlers­ Haus the availability of which can be found on the noticeboards within the  University campus, and also within the local paper, the NWZ  published on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
  3. Elsfleth offers various student residences like “am Lienekanal”, “BelugaVilla” which has 8 furnished rooms and dormitories that are around the campus. Places are allotted on the basis of booking(first-come, first-serve).
  4. There are options for privately rented accommodation and ­ can be found with the help of the staff of the secretarial office of the Maritime Faculty.
