The University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), came into existence in the year 2003. Additionally, It is among the youngest and largest universities in Germany. Besides, it is present in the heart of the Ruhr metropolis. It is home to more than 41,740 students from across the globe, out of which 6,454 are international. Also, UDE offers a broad spectrum of research. It inculcates 5 cross-departmental research areas namely nanoscience, biomedical sciences, urban systems, water research, and transformation of contemporary societies.

Cost of living

Although there are no tuition fees however a semester contribution of 320EUR/sem is essential. This covers the mobility contribution popularly known as semester ticket of 209EUR/sem, necessary for traveling in public transport. Mobility contribution is further divided into 151EUR/sem for the VRR semester ticket and 57EUR/sem for the NRW ticket. Additionally, it also encompasses a student body fee of 16EUR and a social contribution of 95EUR. Overall, the cost of living will come around 900EUR/sem depending solely on one’s expenditures.
